The funeral wailers of Nyakahita

RABBIT 🐇 ON THE PULPIT

Part 16 “The funeral wailers of Nyakahita“

It was 1989 or there about,
When I came across a night dancer,
As we crossed valleys and hills,
For the disco dance at Nyakahita…

First it was the funeral of Major Diaz,
Who succumbed to HIV/AIDS,
His head, hairless,
His fingers nail-less,
As the eyes 👀 turned pale white,
And grey,
The spotted body lay akimbo,
Blaming the witches,
The witches of Nyakahita!

Then the funeral wailers who mourned,
More than the grieved,
Often asking, who had died!
Again, raising their cries,
The chagrin cries of Major Domo..

As women took to the sleep,
The funeral party begun,
First, Christian songs,
Then songs of praise,
By Kafiti, the village Wag,
Singing, while playing the local flute,
“ Oyange Baro, Okunde Nyowe, omutezi
We ndingiri “
Insinuating, that the women should like him ,
And chastise their husbands,
As they knew nothing about playing the flute !

The funeral wailers of Nyakahita!
